Iconographic reading
The Hierophant sits between two grey pillars, wearing a triple crown and red robes, his right hand raised in benediction while his left grips a triple-barred cross. Two tonsured clerics kneel on a checkered floor before him, and crossed keys lie at his feet. These details signal institutional authority, orthodox doctrine, and the transmission of sacred tradition through structured religious hierarchy.
From the source
"He wears the triple crown and is seated between two pillars, but they are not those of the Temple which is guarded by the High Priestess. In his left hand he holds a sceptre terminating in the triple cross, and with his right hand he gives the well-known ecclesiastical sign which is called that of esotericism, distinguishing between the manifest and concealed part of doctrine."

As feelings
UprightThey feel a steady, committed affection rooted in shared values and tradition. They want to build something lasting, offer guidance, and seek your approval. Behaviorally, they show up reliably, introduce you to family or community, and may push for formal commitment or defined relationship rules.
ReversedThey feel constrained, rebellious, or morally conflicted about the connection. They may resent expectations, dogma, or pressure to conform, creating distance or secrecy. Behaviorally, they question rules, avoid commitment rituals, or act hypocritically—saying one thing while doing another. They need freedom to redefine what this bond means.

FAQ
What does The Hierophant upright mean?
The core upright keyword is "tradition" — this energy is flowing naturally in your situation right now.
Is The Hierophant reversed a bad card?
Reversed is not a bad outcome; it signals energy turned inward or blocked, with the key "rebellion". Settling things before acting is the starting point.
What is this card's Yes/No leaning?
Upright leans YES, reversed not yet. For a formal verdict use the 3-card Yes/No tarot, reasoning included.
