Iconographic reading
The Page of Swords stands atop a windswept green mound, body turned right but gaze fixed left against a sky of streaked, racing clouds, his two-handed grip on the upright sword signaling vigilance rather than attack. His fluttering yellow-tufted cap, red boots, and bird-studded tunic mark restless, quicksilver energy, while the barren, leafless tree behind him suggests intellect stripped of comfort. Together these details read as curiosity, mental alertness, and the tireless gathering of information—truth sought, but not yet matured.
From the source
"Authority, overseeing, secret service, vigilance, spying, examination, and the qualities thereto belonging. Reversed: More evil side of these qualities; what is unforeseen, unprepared state; sickness is also intimated. "
— A.E. Waite, The Pictorial Key to the Tarot (1911) (public domain)
As feelings
UprightCurious, alert, and mentally restless. They feel compelled to investigate you—asking probing questions, watching your words closely, gathering information. Attraction runs through the mind: they want to figure you out. Expect quick, candid messages and a slightly guarded eagerness to know where they stand.
ReversedDefensive, suspicious, and prone to overthinking. They feel scrutinized or ready to argue, reading hidden meanings into everything you say. Communication turns sharp, gossipy, or evasive—half-truths, spying, or sudden silence. Beneath it: anxiety about being exposed, and a need to win rather than connect.
